Ricco Rodriguez HERE next weekend then at King of Kombat!
We’re happy to announce over and over again that former UFC Heavyweight Champion Ricco Rodriguez will be making an appearance at this year’s Texas Testoterone Festival. He’ll be signing autographs and taking photos with fans young and old. All of the info about his appearance can be found HERE.
This may be the last time you’ll be able to press flesh with the man in Texas before he makes his way to the Austin Music Hall for the next amazing King of Kombat show, Judgement Day, fighting local rising MMA fighter Justin Howard on Aug. 27.
Also on the card will be a slew of Austin MMA fighters. Nick “The Ghost” Gonzalez, veteran of EliteXC and Strikeforce, the current King of Kombat lightweight champion is fighting Indiana resident Dustin Neace, the current King of Kombat featherweight champ. Nick always brings it. This fight is going to be a barnburner. Also, both from Austin, at 145, Randy Gray vs. Josh Scales. At 155, TAMMA champ Austinite Jacob Austin faces Dallas resident Navied Sadeghi. Another fight to watch at 155, Austin vs. Dallas again as Randy Vera fights Jesus Rivera (begging the question, was the last name “Rivera” “Veravera” initially?). I digress. Continuing the Austin vs. Dallas theme, the only two 185′ers on the card will touch gloves Aug. 27, Chris Trammel (Austin) and Chris Byrd (Dallas).
Ron Hernandez Interview
Interview with the promoter of King of Kombat who put on a fantastic night of fights.
Best submissions in mma?
“No. 4 The Triangle Choke: While in the guard, the fighter traps his opponent’s arm and pulls it forward. From there, the fighter puts his leg opposite to the isolated arm behind the opponent’s head and locks that leg into place with his other leg. Once the legs are locked, the opponent is trapped, and the fighter in guard applies pressure until his opponent either taps out or loses consciousness.”–www.askmen.com
Just this past Saturday at UFC 95, Demian Maia further cemented his position as one of, if not the, best bjj practitioner(s) in mma today by submitting WEC Middleweight Champ (for all intents and purposes) Chael Sonnen; a fight between two guys with slightly unpronounce-able names. His transitions and finishes are impressive, worth drooling over when watching again in slow-mo. With Anderson Silva having been submitted in the past, you heard it here first, Maia might be the man to beat him (if Silva can avoid being submitted by a very game Thales Leites, also slightly unpronounce-able, at UFC 97 in April).
Sadly missing from the askmen.com list are the Peruvian Necktie and the D’arce Choke. Also, I’d probably put the Gogoplata higher than 10. But, it’s tough to complain; I’m just glad stuff like this is being talked about at all, as 4 years ago no one knew what was going on when an mma match hit the ground. And knowing is half the battle, according the G.I. Joe.
Whistlin’ Dexy’s Midnight Runners

“Bonnie’s whistling isn’t so surprising to her caregivers. The 140-pound (63.5-kilometer) orangutan at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C., has been whistling for about two decades.”
How annoying would that be? An orangutan is annoying enough as it is, then you have it whistling for 20 years straight. That has to be a recipe to get slapped (through the cage with an armored glove. You know they would tear your arm off and stick it in your ear if you tried to slap it unprotected). I guess that’s why it’s whistling all the time. Ha, you can’t do anything to me, I’m a 140 lb. behemoth with arms the size of kiss-my-red-haired-butt. Speaking of, how would an mma superfight go between a whistling orangutan and Fedor Emelianenko? My bananas are on the red-head.
